Repeat Prescriptions

There are several ways that you can order a repeat prescription:

  • You can register for online services – see below – with this method you can order your repeat prescriptions online at any time of night or day.
  • You can phone and leave a voicemail request. To do this please call the prescription line on 01698 852299, Option 2. This service is available Sunday to Thursday between the hours of 6pm and 8am.
  • You can return the right-hand side of a previous prescription with the required medications ticked or send us a written request detailing which medications you need. These paper requests can also be put into the letterbox at the surgery door or sent by Royal Mail.

To register for online services with Patient Services please fill in the short application form (link below) and send it into the practice by email to [email protected], by post or put into the letterbox at the front door. You will also need to send copy of valid ID which must have your photograph on it. Once this application has been processed you will receive a letter containing information on how to register. Once you have registered you will be able to log in and make appointments or request repeat prescriptions online.

  • Please note that, when you have registered and then access the log-in page it says you can access your medical casenotes – this is for England only and does not apply to Scotland.

Vision Online is only available for patients aged 16 and over

If you forget to request a Repeat Prescription

If you forget to obtain a prescription for repeat medication and run out of important medicines, you may be able to get help from your pharmacy. Under the Urgent Provision of Current Prescribed Medicines and Appliances, pharmacists may be able to supply you with a few days supply of a previously repeated medicine without having to get a prescription from your GP first.

Please allow four full working days before picking your prescription up from your chosen pharmacy. This includes the time for us to process your prescription and then for your chosen pharmacy to pick it up; order the medication; have it delivered to them and then dispense it for you. Remember to take weekends and public holidays into account.

We will not process any prescriptions requests if they are made more than 7 days before the current medication runs out. Exemptions to this would be if you were going on holiday and were likely to run out whilst away. Please let the practice know if this is the case when you are making the request.

Pharmacies offer a prescription collection service from our Practice. Prescriptions go directly to a pharmacy. Please let reception know which pharmacy you have chosen.

Non-Repeat Items (Acute Requests)

Non Repeat Prescriptions known as “Acute” prescriptions are medicines that have been issued by the Doctor but not added to your repeat prescription records. This is normally a new medication issued for a trial period and may require a review visit with your Doctor prior to being added onto your repeat prescription records. Some medications are recorded as acute as they require to be closely monitored by the Doctor. You may, therefore, not always be issued with your requested medication as you may need to consult with your Doctor first.

Hospital Requests

When you are discharged from hospital you will normally receive at least 7 days supply of medication before you leave.

Please send your discharge letter, which you were given by the hospital, to the surgery as soon as possible. This contains your medication requirements and is the only documentation that we receive from the hospital until we get a formal letter several weeks later. We don’t want you to run out of the medication that the hospital has recommended.

Hospital requests for change of medication will be checked by the practice pharmacist first, and, if necessary, your GP will issue you with a prescription. We still require at least four working days notice to have time to process your prescription and for your chosen pharmacy to dispense it.
